ABIC ACTION CONDEMNS GOV. DESANTIS WASTING $12M TO HARM INNOCENT CHILDREN

“THIS LAW HARMS INNOCENT CHILDREN AND RAISES FOOD PRICES FOR EVERY FLORIDIAN.”

TALLAHASSEE – Today Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law SB 1808 which criminalizes faith organizations like Catholic Charities for caring for vulnerable, unaccompanied migrant children by denying state licenses to service providers, leaving children on the streets, and exposing them to the threat of human trafficking. SB 1808 will wastefully cost taxpayers $12M. In response to this harmful anti-immigrant push by DeSantis, ABIC Action Board member Mike Fernandez issued the following statement:

“ABIC Action condemns Governor DeSantis for signing SB 1808 into law. As Florida’s families struggle with rising food and gas prices, our state has no business wasting taxpayer dollars to advance Governor DeSantis’ political ambitions and harm innocent immigrant children.

“This law destroys innocent children’s lives, hurts the economy, and raises food and gas prices for every Floridian.”
